Matthew Donnelly

Matthew is a young clarinetist who is looking forward to playing with AYO this year. Matthew attended St Peter’s College and is beginning his studies at the University of Auckland this year where he will study a Bachelor of Arts with majors in Ancient History and Anthropology.

Matthew has played clarinet for several years, and while at high school was taught by local clarinetist Rowan Meade. He participated readily in all forms of school music, also playing saxophone in the school’s jazz band. In 2020, as part of the Jerusalem Clarinet Quartet, Matthew travelled to Wellington to compete in the finals of the National Chamber Competition, where his group received several awards including the People’s Choice Award.

Matthew feels fortunate to have this opportunity to perform with the orchestra, and is excited to play this year’s repertoire.
