The Finals of the 2022 competition were held over Labour Weekend. The Finalists were:
Vincent Chen:Schumann – Cello Concerto in A minor
Wenjia Li:Tchaikovsky – Violin Concerto in D Major
Alina Chen: Borne/Bizet – Carmen Fantasie Brillante for Flute & Orchestra
Outstanding Performance Prizes were awarded to Vincent Chen and Alina Chen; unfortunately Wenjia Li was unwell and unable to perform at the Finals.
The Gem Award winner was Eva Wu, who performed Tchaikovsky’s Variations (nos. 1,2,3 & 7) on a Rococo Theme.
The Under 18 Prize was awarded to Jifei Shao, for her performance of Elgar’s Cello Concerto.
We were most grateful to receive a $5,000 grant from the Perpetual Guardian Margaret Neutze Legacy Fund to assist with the prize money awarded. Margaret Neutze (Leman) was a Vice-President of AYO and had played harp for us over many years. Her ongoing support of AYO in this way is sincerely appreciated.
